The following is a transcript with limited edits for ease of readability.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
I’ve been asked, “What is a mommy makeover?” Well, really a mommy makeover oftentimes is associated with a typical change, is associated with breastfeeding and having babies. And so the mommy makeover is typically breast surgery, usually a tummy tuck, liposuction, whatever it takes to get, you know, the…a mom’s body back.
You know, a typical mum, two or three kids, breastfeeding, C-section, you know, oftentimes they need, after having kids, there is atrophy of the breast after breastfeeding so, typically, breast augmentation, breast lift, tummy tuck, liposuction, the hips or flanks, maybe liposuction in the inner and outer thighs. So all those can comprise a mommy makeover. It’s what we do here at Ranch & Coast Plastic Surgery.
We’re kinda uniquely set up for that. We have an overnight stay, we have a process, all my nurses have been with me 10 years plus. We just know how to do it. My anesthesiologists are all dedicated and worked with me for a decade, so we have a whole program on how to do it. It’s not like we’re doing it the first time. We’ve done, you know, hundreds and hundreds of mommy makeovers.
How do You Prepare for a Mommy Makeover Surgery
I have been asked, “How do you prepare for your mommy makeover surgery?” And I kinda tell every patient that the more cardio that they can do prior to surgery, they’ll jump up off the bed much quicker. In other words, cardio and recovery times are linked, and the more cardio you can do, the better your recovery is gonna be. As far as, you know, the standard things, not taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, that’s true too. But prior to the mommy makeover, I think your best thing you can do is get in the best shape you can be.
What does the Day of My Mommy Makeover Surgery Look Like?
I have been asked what the day of surgery looks like, and typically after you come to the office, we get you changed and then you’ll meet with me. And we go over again size and shape of breasts and I mark your tummy or your areas of liposuction, and we can answer any kinda questions that you have. After that, you meet with my anesthesiologist, and then you go back, and you go back to sleep.
After that, we do the surgery. Almost all of our mommy makeovers, we stay overnight in our accredited facility at Ranch & Coast Plastic Surgery. I think we’re uniquely suited to do mommy makeovers because we have a staff of experienced professionals and we have an overnight ability, with a nurse one-on-one. And so that’s kinda your typical mommy makeover scenario.
How is the Recovery Time for My Mommy Makeover?
I’ve been asked about the recovery of a mommy makeover. It really depends that mommy makeover can…There’s a big spectrum of what things can be done, breast augmentation with lift, tummy tuck, liposuction, but typically, an average mommy makeover feels pretty good by about a week. It’s about a week recovery, and I usually ask them with young kids, that they should have help for about a week.
After that, we do a lot of moms, we do a lot of mommy makeovers, it seems like a week is about all they need. By 10 days they’re feeling pretty good, two weeks you can start doing cardio, three weeks you can start doing light upper body lifting. And I usually tell people they’re unrestricted in a month.
