In addition to Dr. Chasan, Ranch & Coast is proud to present Dr. Richard Balikian as a lip augmentation provider. Dr. Balikian began his medical career by earning his medical degree from Boston University Medical School. He went on to complete an internship in General Surgery, as well as a residency in Head & Neck and Facial Plastic Surgery. Once completed with these prestigious endeavors, Dr. Balikian was hand-selected by one of the world’s most prominent cosmetic facial surgeons to partake in a year of highly specialized facial training.

While Dr. Balikian has an impressive background as well as training, he also made time to teach young surgeons at the Indiana University School of Medicine. During this time, he held the appointment of Clinical Instructor of Facial Plastic Surgery. Currently, Dr. Balikian practices at Ranch & Coast Plastic Surgery, where he routinely helps patients get the most out of their lip injections, along with the full spectrum of facial plastic surgery procedures.

How is Lip Augmentation Performed?

Lip augmentation is an outpatient procedure that is done within an hour. Your provider first covers the lips with a topical anesthetic and then performs lip augmentation through multiple injections of lip filler over certain areas of the lips. Our most popular lip fillers have lidocaine in them, minimizing the sensitivity of the injections. Most patients report little to no pain involved with their lip injections.

Side effects and downtime are typically minimal. Most of our patients can continue with their daily schedule immediately following the procedure with very little bruising or swelling.

Is Lip Augmentation Reversible?

In most cases, lip injections are easily reversible. Because Juvéderm and Restalyne are hyaluronic acid fillers, they can be more quickly absorbed by the body with an injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase will help “deflate” lips quickly, should the patient want.

Silicone oil is more challenging to reverse. It typically requires the surgical removal of lip tissue. That being said, our providers have a great track record of satisfied patients, and the desire for reversal is extremely rare.

As the lip filler wears off, it is naturally broken down and absorbed by the body. This typically takes about 6-12 months.
Juvéderm is known to have a soft and natural look and feel. It spreads smoothly and evenly among lip tissue and is great at plumping the lips up overall.
Restalyne is considered a slightly stiffer substance and is typically utilized when focusing on a certain area of the lip or lip borders.
Silicone oil is also used for lip augmentation and results can last for years. Silicone is not absorbed by the body, which is why results are so long-lasting.
