What is a Calf Augmentation?
Calf augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that uses solid silicone inserts to create larger, natural looking calves. In most cases, calf augmentation is used for cosmetic reasons, but a 2016 Medscape article reports, “in people with a shrunken lower leg, as a result of injury or disease, an implant can be inserted in the calf to help minimize the resultant deformity.”
No matter how much we weight train and exercise, several factors such as our genetics can limit the amount of muscle we are able to build. Even intense bodybuilding cannot guarantee we will have the muscle definition and physique we desire. As a result, calf implants are becoming one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries, especially for men.
According to a 2017 report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “calf augmentation rose 54% between 2016 and 2017.” This number will likely rise further as more men become comfortable with undergoing cosmetic procedures.
