What Should I Expect During Juvéderm Treatment?

Prior to Juvederm facial filler treatment, our providers will apply a topical anesthetic or another numbing agent to increase comfort during the procedure. In addition, Juvederm itself contains lidocaine, helping patients remain as comfortable as possible during treatment. The injections themselves will take between 15 minutes to an hour, depending upon the treatment areas and the cosmetic goals of the patient.

While the filling results of Juvederm will be immediately visible after treatment, there may be some redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites. These side effects should pass rapidly, allowing patients to enjoy the full results of their treatment shortly after the procedure.

What are the Juvéderm Pre-Treatment Instructions?

To ensure our San Diego dermal filler patients get the most from their Juvederm treatment with minimal risks, there are some instructions to follow. While our office will provide a comprehensive list of instructions, some will include avoiding blood thinners a few days to a week prior to treatment.

How Long do the Results Last?

Due to the variety of Juvederm products and applications, patients can expect different results. In some cases, the results can last up to two years. In others, they may last approximately nine months. On the longer end of the spectrum is Juvederm Voluma XC, one of the denser products that is typically used as a cheek filler.

Are there any Post-Treatment Instructions?

Our office will provide a full list of post-treatment instructions, helping our patients get the most from their Juvederm procedure. Post-treatment instructions include:

Avoid aspirin and any blood-thinning medication for one week after treatment
Avoid touching or massaging the treatment area(s)
Avoid direct sun, excessive heat, and strenuous exercise for at least three days following Juvederm treatment
Avoid alcohol, smoking, high sodium foods, and caffeine for a period after the treatment, as these will increase the likelihood of swelling and irritation
Wait 24 hours before applying makeup
